The Witch’s Verification

 Reporter: Lyn Tolbert (Gen 11)

Location: The Kirkland Kitchen

Time: 4:30 AM

Aunt Winona didn't even wait for me to sit down. She snatched the leather folder and spread the Greyson Files across the table. Her hands were glowing—not enough to light the room, but enough to make the ink on Alicia's "rejected" stamps look like they were bleeding.

Winona: Alicia’s work is clever, Lyn. She’s used real names and real dates, but she’s twisted the intent. Look here, at the Generation 9 transition. She’s fabricated a 'lost' marriage record to make Theodore Vance's line look illegitimate.

Lyn: Can you prove it's fake? Or is this just 'witchy intuition'?

Winona: Intuition is just history that hasn't been written down yet. But I can do better.

She pressed her palm against the center of the folder. A spark—a real, blue Ember Spark—rippled through the paper. Suddenly, the red ink Alicia used to cross out the Greyson names began to fade, revealing the original gold text underneath.

The Hidden Message

Underneath Alicia’s "Imperial Decree," a new set of words appeared. It wasn't a law. It was a letter from Amelia Ember (Generation 7) to the future of the tree:

"To the one who finds the scar: The 12th generation is not the end; it is the release. The crown and the wand are both chains if they are not carried by choice. Find the boy in the Greyson branch. He holds the key to the foundation."

Lyn: Theodore is the key? Not just a baby, but an actual 'key' to the foundation of the 48 households?

Winona: It means Alicia isn't just trying to win a title, Lyn. She’s trying to stop a prophecy. If Theodore Vance takes his place as the first of the 12th, the 'Empire' she’s built on these rigid laws will literally cease to exist. The power returns to the individuals, not the decrees.

Lyn: So we aren't just whistleblowers. We're the security detail for a Gen 12 infant.

The Historian’s Tactical Sidebar:

  • The Ember Glow: Seeing Winona use magic to literally burn away Alicia's lies was the highlight of my week.

  • The Prophecy: This goes way beyond a family feud. Alicia is terrified of Generation 12 because it represents the end of her control.

  • The Next Move: Winona wants to "teleport" me to the Greyson Branch to warn them. I told her I’d prefer to take the bus—I’m a historian, not a human firework.
